Hop Skip Jump is another song that I have been singing to myself for a decade. I saw it as been like a collision between Bo Diddley, School House Rock and European New Wave.I saw it as being a single as soon as I sang the chorus to myself.

Home Before Dark was originally released as the b side of a 1967 single by Woody Guthrie’s 15 year old daughter Nora. It was written for her by her teenage boyfriend. I’ve loved both sides of that single for years.
We're loving this so far. Duglas T Stewart / BMX Bandits AndrewPattie_music new album Dreamers On The Run. ❤️ #timstwitterlisteningparty

The album was inspired by the title sequence of an animated film based on Peynet’s Lovers. The lovers run hand in hand along the bottom of the screen while above them terrible things happen, war, starvation, the holocaust, atom bombs.

Our last track is another reprise of the opening theme. Andrew repairs and adapts games consoles and I wanted to bring that other aspect of his life into the album. It’s a blessing for those that we love.

Time To Get Away is a conversation with a friend who is being beaten down by city life. So I suggest getting away from it all. I was inspired by trips I made to Formentera out of season after being unwell. The sunshine and water there really helped me.

The second song is Setting Sun written by Andrew. When I heard it I suggested we should do it like a late 1960s Everly Brothers track. That period of Everly Brothers is really underrated.
What a gorgeous arrangement on “The things we threw away” from the “Dreamers on the run” LP. It feels very Harpers Bizarre-esque and is completely enchanting. Written by Duglas T Stewart / BMX Bandits of the #BMXBandits . 👏Tim's Listening Party

They keep on running trying to escape this world full of horrors. I’ll post the title sequence, which features a beautiful Morricone theme, at the end of the party.

It was inspired by soft pop vocal groups arranged by one of my arranging heroes Nick De Caro. There’s also a bit of the spirit of BMX Bandits’ other big heroes Rod McKuen in this.
“Hop, skip jump (for your love) has a wonderfully loose, spontaneous feel. Such a happy sounding track from the “Dreamers on the run” LP. Written by Duglas T Stewart / BMX Bandits & AndrewPattie_music of the #BMXBandits . Great fun👏Tim's Listening Party

Here’s that title sequence that I mentioned at the start that inspired me. I saw the film at a cinema in Tokyo in 1999. youtu.be/ywi6OLq7lL4?si…

It features the first of two cameo appearances on the album by Jowe Head of Swell Maps and the TVPs, this time as a side show preacher. Both Andrew love and recommend Jowe’s 1981 solo album Pincer Movement.

Cockerel’s Waiting started with a chorus Andrew wrote as a teenager. I suggested that we take inspiration from a track by Phil Ochs called One Way Ticket Home on Phil Ochs Greatest Hits (which isn’t a Greatest Hits album).
What a way to fade out the track Cockerel’s waiting” with a marvellously subdued revisit of the title track from the “Dreamers on the run” LP. Written by Duglas T Stewart / BMX Bandits & AndrewPattie_music of the #BMXBandits . Superb album 👏Tim's Listening Party
