Germander Speedwell Frustratingly, I got rid of most of my mudlarking sketchbooks. I had one especially for 50s Japanese mass-produced toys. I gave away 99% of my finds and tossed my reference pads due to lack of space. 🫣

A near perfect lead cloth seal that would have been attached to a length of woollen cloth sometime around the end of the 16th century, to prove it was of good quality and that the necessary taxes had been paid.

It might not look very exciting, but this is one of my favourite pottery shards. Look carefully, can you see painted decoration? Those simple paint strokes are almost 2,000 years old because this is a piece of decorated Roman pot.
