These are scattered boulders on a massive metamorphic rock called porphyritic gneiss. (A metamorphosed igneous rock)

brought home a cool rock i found

We’re in Ariège, again marvelling at how varied, wooded & wonderful a place it is. Eg today = waterfall through gneiss boulders in conifers at 1000m, family oakwood walk at 500m & limestone caving with the kids over lunch.

Keen for snowy hills & sunny rock here in future years.
