Dr Naomi Harvey (PhD not MD) #WearAMask Sandy B Nick Wellings Clare Daly I think part of the problem with brain activity in particular is that increasing blood flow to the brain due to demand for brain activity interrupts the glymphatic system in the brain which is likely always in overdrive in pwME

charlos __________________________________________________ If the glymphatic system is compromised it would be. It is is dysfunctional in many with LC + ME but obvs on an individual level we don’t know. But, intracranial hypertension is implicated as part of the pathology in ME with 83% showing signs of it here frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…

I sometimes look at the brain like a big office building, and at night, while all the workers are gone, the cleaning crew (glymphatic system) comes in, cleans carpet, deep cleans bathrooms & kitchens, takes out all the trash, dusts, etc.

My personal hunch is that the reason I need a lot of 'no thoughts only stimming' time is because it helps my glymphatic system catch up with all the extra cleaning it needs to do

Dr. Praveen Tripathi Sleeping for less than required time is actually Linked to Alzheimer's and many other neurodegenerative diseases , when we sleep the glymphatic system in the body gets activated and clears the toxic metabolites and misfolded proteins, Hence sleep is vital :)

What causes the incessant thirst symptom in ? I see it listed in many studies, but never an explanation. I'm always thirsty now. I hydrate well all day w electrolytes. When I first wake I feel like the crypt keeper. Not my worst symptom, but unpleasant. Just curious.

Shane Liddelow 🍊 Jenn Orthmann Murphy Chris Bennett what about myelin lipoma/tumors produced after injury impeding the CSF glymphatic flush of sleep, preventing the brain from being cleaned of some waste each night? If stress hormone accumulate, it is ptSD.

I'm honestly thinking the lymphatic/glymphatic system is trying to move stuff out, but not able to pull it successfully from the tissues (endothelial dysfunction?), so it keeps sending the signal for 'more fluids!'

Kind of like the O2 not getting to tissues makes us breathless.

Wende Gibbs What causes his confusion? Can I ask which of these images shows the glymphatic sleep pathway, if one does? Is there a way to clear that pathway if you absolutely KNEW it was blocked?

The part of the brain that clears out extra waste/gunk/neurotoxic junk

Is called the 'glymphatic system'

And in the past 10 years or so, our understanding of how that system works has completely changed.

A myelin edit surgery is needed. The glymphatic path used by CSF to clean the brain (during sleep) must be kept open and free to flow. A myelin tumor after brain injury is a block of hormones flowing toward the urinary tract, and it must be considered an emergency and removed.

But! If your brain is perpetually using a lot of energy (and the study up thread indicates this seems to be a thing for Autistic people)

Then there isn't as much time for your glymphatic system to clean up excess waste

Especially if you also have trouble sleeping
