We have lots of future Entomologists 🐜 and Malacologists 🐌 in Dosbarth Cangarw! They had an amazing day at Cosmeston Lakes hunting for minibeasts🐞 - not a clean hand in sight!

I wish I'd found this for 's recent challenge but better late than never : a small number of red-flowered Cowslips amongst a field of yellow at Cosmeston today.

From today's wander around Cosmeston, this gorgeous male Orange-tip - also saw my first female but she didn't stop for a photo; and a single Large red damselfly.

At Cosmeston's dipping pond earlier, these young Moorhens were enjoying poking through the pond weed for tasty morsels. Nice for them, though I'm not sure the newts, dragonfly larvae & other invertebrates would agree this is the best time of year to be clearing out their pond.

Cosmeston : a grey wet morning was brightened by the sight of 2 humbugs with their parents; Swallows were swirling around me, low over the outer fields; & a male Stonechat was foraging in the west paddock. 💚

Neighbouring Birch trees at Cosmeston today produced two Coleophora serratella larvae and several mines. Only got one photo of a larva in the mines, which I think is Eriocrania semipurpurella. Rob Edmunds, is this clear enough to tell?

I rechecked the mines in young Birch saplings at Cosmeston this morning, Rob Rob Edmunds - I think the first 2 photos are Eriocrania semipurpurella, while pics 3 & 4 (a closeup of 3) are Eriocrania unimaculella. Is that right?

What a glorious day for a long meander around Cosmeston! Several Large red damsels but no blues yet; my first adult moths of the year, the 1st I think is Common carpet, the 2nd is Pyraustra purpuralis; & a portrait of my crow friend (I think his mate must be sitting on a nest).

Top entrance to west paddock at Cosmeston is permanently open allowing horse riders to access the paddock. Hoof marks and horse manure all around the field. Vale Council 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿🇺🇦 please fix this - it's dangerous for dog walkers and the horse riders
