Informational thread on #singlestair buildings and fire safety

A thread of #SingleStair projects in Seattle. This is similar to what we will see in BC (and eventually Vancouver) once the zoning and code catches up.

#Singlestair My two-stair 5 story apartment building has 124 units, 116 served by the stairs. That’s 62 units per stair well (with a second stair 90m away) so you have to navigate up to 45m of hall before getting to the stair with 100+ other people.

For those interested in the #singlestair discussion. Here are a bunch of fairly new homes behind our office. The townhouse units have thinner floor plates, dual aspect, and more green space. The apartment buildings (with 2 stairs and a hallway) have deep floor.

Allowing single-stair buildings could solve multiple problems and result in more livable apartments in more areas. This is one regulation of many that no longer serve a valid purpose and need to be re-examined. youtu.be/iRdwXQb7CfM #housing #buildingcodereform #singlestair
