Another harsh reality…

Renters do not pay their landlords’ mortgage or property taxes.
Renters do not pay their landlords’ maintenance/upkeep or insurance.

Renters pay rent in exchange for a place to live. Whatever the landlord does with the rent $$ is their business.

Rental inflation (7.8%) is now MORE THAN DOUBLE standard inflation (3.6%). So while Labor will talk about 'easing inflation' what they won't mention is renters are getting smashed by the biggest rent increases in 15 years. Freeze and cap rent increases now.

So far...the discussion on blanket rezoning discussion in Calgary seems to break down into a few distinct groups.

For - Developers, relators and renters.

Against - People who actually own their own property and don't want to see their neighborhoods destroyed by lower income…

The government has let down all renters over #Section21 - I am thinking of all those with disabilities losing their home for no good reason who find there are no rental homes that are accessible and affordable - and ultimately get forced into temp accommodation.

Following the Third Reading of the #RentersReformBill it's become clear Shelter cannot support this version of the Bill.

Renters have campaigned tirelessly for a Bill that will genuinely protect them. This Bill is not it.

I just voted to end no-fault evictions.

We've endured 14 years of Conservative Government inaction. Enough is enough!

We demand a #GeneralElectionNow so that renters get the rights they deserve and do not have to live in fear.

The ‘Renters’ Reform Bill was supposed to benefit millions of private renters across the country, many of whom have been completely shafted for years. Instead it benefits the self interests of 47 backbench Conservative MP’s who are also Landlords.

It’s no longer worth the paper…

The Renters’ Reform Bill no longer has the support of the Renters’ Reform Coalition - a group including Shelter, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation and Generation Rent because it…doesn’t actually give a date for the ban on Section 21 evictions which is…what it was designed to do

Yet another reason that we need more The Green Party MP’s.
The Renters Reform Bill has been delayed for far too long. Urgent reform is needed if we are to start to rebuild our broken housing system.
