Likely the result of an aquarium disposal, Hygrophila is native to the East Indies & quickly invades slow moving waters…hence it is on the USDA Federal Noxious Weed List.

It’s ! Thanks to everyone who workshopped aquatic plant at UCL East campus today. Photos show artist Rob Rivers showing some ecologists how to make paper from algae - a lost technique that can tell us about past relationships between people and rivers.

a free-floating aquatic fern. I saw it in a manatee pond at the Botanical Gardens in my hometown, Georgetown, Guyana. The manatees were not interested in the Salvinia. I wonder why🤔 Pretty plant but it is quite the invasive in the southern US.

What better way to kick off but with a WIDNR bonanza style point intercept survey on Berlin Pond with Rubenstein School intern Izzy Anderson! Can’t wait to see what the macrophytes tell us about the health of this pond!
