So, under the floorboards while renovating their house a friend found an unusual silver plate 19th combination flask/sandwich box. You’ve gotta love those inventive Victorians! Now I’m way down a rabbit hole researching the names in the inscription. #FamilyHistory #HouseHistory
Have spent all day piecing together stories of former occupants of the house in Maida Vale during early 1900s! But there is no escaping impact of the First World War & one former resident, a 36 year old solicitor, died fighting at the Battle of the Somme in 1916. #househistory
This nail had been sticking out of a floorboard upstairs for 30+ years. The number of times we've caught our feet on it is unreal.
It was removed three years ago, my mam has framed it 🖼️🔨

Nearly finished with a #househistory that was once the home of the Sisters of Mercy. Found a wonderful land division map in an early 19th c. probate record with a codicil that notes a brick house on the land that the devisee was living in at the time he received the property.
Curious about the backstory? 🏡 Dive deep into the history of this property, uncovering past renovations and repairs that shaped its character. #HouseHistory #Renovations #RealEstate

Land tax records are of mixed value to house historians and as with many sources, they are useful when used in conjunction with other #HouseHistory records. #HouseHistory Hour
It took reviewing 24 maps and 35 years of tax assessment rolls, but I finally found the location where my gg.grandparents built their house in Victoria. #FamilyHistory #Genealogy #HouseHistory
Having fun piecing together more of the history of the house in Little Venice! This shows the corner of Maida Avenue and Warwick Bridge near to the house in c.1906 😀 #househistories #househistory #LittleVenice
Having fun and games piecing together the history of a house in Little Venice in London 😀 This map (Greenwoods, 1827) shows the area long before the house was built in 1888! 😊 #househistory #househistories #London
It was a great pleasure to speak at Westerham Hall, Kent, about the history of a cottage in the nearby village of Limpsfield last week. I explained how I have been able to trace the house and the land on which it was built from the fifteenth century to the present.

Looking over a fantastic bundle of original docs for my house that I’ve just picked up from the solicitors (only took 14 months to get them!).

Naturally, I couldn't resist looking at what was here before the house I have just moved into was built. This OS six-inch 1898 pub. tells the story - courtesy of NLS Map Collections #HouseHistory
