Today is #HIVIsNotACrime Awareness Day. HIV criminalization does not make anyone safer, but reinforces stigma and undermines public health goals.
Currently, PA remains as one of nine states still subjecting people living with HIV to felony penalties if charged with prostitution.
HIV disproportionately impacts the LGBTQI+ community and communities of color, and so do laws that criminalize having HIV. As a Member of the Congressional Equality Caucus, I believe that we must strongly state that #HIVIsNotACrime , and it’s time our laws reflect that.
Today, on #HIVIsNotACrime Awareness Day, let's combat stigma and outdated laws affecting marginalized communities. Let's urge lawmakers to repeal these laws and shift from criminalization to compassion. Let's raise our voice for justice and dignity. 🌈✊🏾 #EndHIVStigma
End HIV Criminalization laws! These laws
undermine public health efforts by deterring
people from HIV testing/treatment, stigmatizing
those w/HIV, & communities most impacted—
incl POC, women, LGBTQ ppl, sex workers &
the formerly incarcerated.
