India made intervention in CITES CoP19 on trade in Asian Elephant and underlined the various measures taken to manage captive elephants in the country and the existing legal provisions. #CITES #COP19 #ASIANELEPHANTS

Batagur kachuga got included in Appendix I of the CITES in the CoP19 held at Panama recently. It’s similarity with red eared sliders brought it in illegal pet trade. Also poached for its meat. Heard a code name ‘Tilak Dhari’ for Batagur while investigating a case. Shailendra Singh PhD

From COP19 in Panama, to the world: CLIMATE COLLAPSE IS FOREVER, SO IS EXTINCTION. ECOCIDE IS SUICIDE. No economy without biodiversity, no health without a stable climate, no security with climate breakdown. There isn´t much else worth worrying about at this point #EmergencyMode

Along with 41 countries, Maldives co-sponsored proposal 37 on requiem sharks at CITES CoP19. This proposal has won more than 2/3rd majority vote at Committee 1 recommending to be adopted at Plenary today. This is huge and a crucial step towards conservation of shark populations.
