Katerniaghat: where rare is common.

Mornings in Delhi are chirpy and loud because of migration of Rosy starlings. They can be seen in large numbers on ficus trees munching figs. They are on their ways to Eurasian landscape and will again come back in Sept-Oct as harbinger of winters. #migration #birds

Butea monosperma is called ‘flames of the forest’ and are associated with many sayings and stories in parts of the country.

Saraca asoka is the true Ashoka tree, which has been narrated in Ramayana. They are gregariously flowering these days. Most of the parks of Delhi do have them in good number.

Terai jungles have a tree commonly known as Udal (Sterculia villosa). This lesser known tree is widely distributed ranging from Assam to Kerala and a native to India. Flowering gregariously these days though it’s better identified with its reddish corky flowers.

Mango trees have got laden with inflorescences of tiny pale-white flowers these days. The inflorescences of Mango are commonly called ‘Baur’ or ‘Manjari’. They are famous for their intoxicating fragrance. Do you know that Mango is native to India?

Jacaranda is in. Gulmohar and Amaltas are about to bloom. Summers are fully set.

Red Jungle Flow (RJF) is one of my favourite birds in Terai jungles. Males show territoriality and fight for their territories. A good capture of fights between two males in Dudhwa.

Flush of new leaves of Pilkhan or Pakad (Ficus virens) can surprise you with their metallic lustre these days.

Waterholes are prominent places for sighting of wildlife in summers. Tigers too are easily seen around them.

Bougainvillea’s time. In different colours.

Terai is raining with tigers. Sightings are on its peak. Good time to be in Pilibhit-Kishanpur-Dudhwa-Katerniaghat landscape.
