Sadly, the majority of drownings in the UK happen on inland water such as rivers & canals.

If you fall in, try to get your breathing under control. Roll onto your back & float or paddle to stay at the surface, keeping your head above water orlo.uk/VVBLq

Anyone could drown, no one should. If you start to struggle in the water:

- Tilt your head back
- Relax, breathe normally
- Move your hands to help you float
- Spread your arms and legs out
- Call for help or swim to safety

Be careful not to lose your footing near water. Riverbanks and coastal paths can be unstable. Stick to proper pathways and keep clear of the edge.

If you see someone in trouble make sure you know what to do: esfrs.org/water-safety-d…

We're fast approaching the summer.
But always remember the water in Scotland is dangerously cold all year round.
And always be prepared by wearing a wetsuit and a buoyancy aid ⬇️

40% of people who accidentally drowned had no intention of entering the water. Slips trips and falls were often the cause of these accidents.

Unseen hazards and cold water shock can mean even strong swimmers get into trouble.

It is important that you know what to do if someone is in trouble in the water ⚠️

Never go into the water to rescue someone❗

Call 999, tell them to float, and throw them something to help❗

Make sure your children know this important safety information❗
