"It is now essential that all local authorities urgently put in place temporary infrastructure wherever it’s needed." £30 million is available in Scotland to create #SpaceForDistancing. But is your council taking hold of the opportunity? bit.ly/2YzKq3F

Famous @ianwalker study found that cyclists wearing helmets were given less room on the road by motorists cos helmets thought to offer protection in any smash. Meanwhile, in the real world: forbes.com/sites/carltonr…

Wellfield Road, Cardiff. Six customers for a local cafe in the space previously occupied by one empty car. You don't need to be an economist, do you?

Grosvenor Road, Twickenham, 8am today. This DPD driver ignores the road markings and cuts the corner, causing a cyclist to dismount and use the pavement as the driver refuses to give way. Driver blames the cyclist. What do you say DPD_UK?

👏 Serious cash flowing into Active Travel now. Over £10 per head (WG probably spending more like £15 per person when you include other infrastructure funding). Great to see a variety of different locations proposing significant schemes.Details here. gov.wales/sites/default/…

Very important that this is visible on social media: For every 1 person objecting to even temporary active travel measures, more than 6 support. Make sure the vast majority aren’t drowned out by the angry minority. Sign their petition. Get others to sign it. 👇

Today's announcement from UK Prime Minister is a great start, but for us to really succeed we need to hear more from people saying yes to better health, cleaner air and safer streets - and less from the NIMBYs standing in the way. Be a YIMBY and #ChooseCycling 👍

Cycling solo is great for getting some headspace or crushing intervals. Group rides are perfect for banter, cafes, and sprinting for town signs. They both have their pros, and they both have their cons. This week on the GCN Show, Manon and Dan discuss. gcn.eu/41y

The roads will be busy today. I find the best approach to motorists is to assume that they are all absolutely lovely but insane people. You are then better able to anticipate and forgive odd behaviour and, importantly, to get on and enjoy your ride.

I have cursed under my breath countless times as I have fixed punctures in driving rain, in the dark and always, it seemed, at the furthest point from home. "Punctures never happen in sunshine metres from home", Today one did. It is still ****** annoying!

My bike is a ten year old single-speed. It didn't cost much when I bought it but it is still in daily use after a decade. I love it. What it lacks in sparkly components it doesn't really make up in anything else but it is the most comfortable bike ever.

I've had two reports of two groups of cyclists riding two-abreast and forcing pedestrians off a shared pedestrian/cycle path beside a canal in the Glasgow area. We wouldn't accept that from car drivers. We need to be better than that.

Very grateful to the Police in Glasgow who managed to retrieve my son's bike which was stolen. It was gone for four months and it came back in some state! Stripped down to the last nut and bolt last week - rust removed, components cleaned, lubed, reassembled. Now good to go!

#MTBRebuild This is what I have to show for this afternoon - a complete strip down and rebuild of a 2000 Shimano XT rear derailleur. Ignore the SRAM like jockey wheels. They were cheap replacements until I was certain the derailleur would work. Seems OK but it was a finicky job!

It's time to fight back against the bike lane backlash before a vocal minority frighten councils into backtracking. If you're enjoying cycling safely through pop-up lanes & new 20mph zones, please let your local council know they have your support. 👉 bit.ly/3hHZxhR
