Having a daughter who works in the healthcare system, this govt frustrates me to no end. The message Ford conveys does NOT reflect what is happening in our system. 😔

Very rich PD day with Dr. Shelley Moore, PhD HWDSB. I know my team is excited to continue this conversation in supporting teachers and students, as well as deepening our own learning in making curriculum accessible to all. Thank you for being so inspiring Shelley! #HWDSBSLRTteam

After a stormy Saturday, the sun came out today. Pictures don’t capture the crashing of the waves or the feel of the wind on your face. Love this time of year. #gratefulheart

1) Okay, so the Ontario Gov't just announced parents would get $250 per kid to "enhance learning". Let's look at one example of what that money could do if it was directed to schools instead of used as a political bribe to parents.

Every one of us should be angry that one of Ontario’s largest children’s hospitals has had to call in the Red Cross to help with staffing. Every one of us should be demanding that our government immediately invest more resources into our healthcare system. Every one of us.

NEW: Copenhagen’s new plan will replace 600 out of 1,050 public parking spaces in their city centre with wider sidewalks, bike-lanes, street trees & landscaping. That’s a great trade. Inspiring when great cities are still getting better. HT @StockholmCyclo dr.dk/nyheder/region…

I’ve been doing a lot of reading and thinking the last few months about how we teach math and love the conversations that I’m hearing. Is what we are doing evidence based? Do we need to have a similar shift as we have in reading? More to come. bibliotecadigital.mineduc.cl/bitstream/hand…

This large scale U.S. study found that early numeracy skills are the best predictor of later school success, including reading and attention skills. Good primary math instruction and early intervention are important for student success long term. apa.org/pubs/journals/…

My holiday reading @johnmighton. Many takeaways from this book. Mathematical competence is important for making informed decisions. Anyone can learn math given the right supports. Use research based strategies. AND the importance of practice in becoming competent.

Another thought that gives me pause. As a teacher who supports students with disabilities, how often are we turning students off math when they are given these problems before they have a good foundation? Struggle is not fun when you don’t have tools to start. #equitablemath

This should be the top issue of every political campaign, every government decision being made. This is scary. I feel like I’m in the movie ā€œDon’t Look Upā€. šŸ˜ž U.N. climate chief says two years to save the planet | Reuters reuters.com/world/un-clima…

I recently saw Dr David Costello speak at #OAME. One of my favourite sessions! Good to see some practical ways retrieval strategies can be incorporated into math learning.

Loving the conversations in our first week of Grade 3 math PD. Teachers are excited to be talking about math! Part of our first session focuses on representing add/sub while looking at the progression from Grades 1-3. HWDSB Math HWDSB

Another great conversation in our Grade 3 math PD today was how to support students in the progression from the counting phase to become an ā€œadditive thinkerā€. HWDSB Math HWDSB
