Extensive use of AI & camera traps in Simlipal Tiger Reserve is helping in nabbing the poachers & intruders. Three persons were caught on the camera & they were arrested with guns & other tools kept for poaching by subsequent raids in their village.Well done team Simlipal.

Our new guests at Nandankanan… The species collection of Nandankanan Biological park got enriched by bringing 2:2 Common marmosets.They are in quarantine at present. Will be housed in specially designed exotic primate enclosure for public to have a glimpse & get educated.

Extremely proud of team Simlipal😌 Remotely placed AI cameras captured the images of poachers entering into Simlipal. All were arrested & four country made guns were seized. Time for persons still engaged in such adventurism to stay clear of the protected areas.

Nature can be cruel. Sad to inform that we lost a dear elephant Mama at Kumarkhunti camp to herpes virus. This virus can cause acute hemorrhagic disease with more than 90% in young elephants. It gave us so much of joy.It’s like loosing a family member🙏

Happy to inform that Lioness Bijli of Nandankanan zoo has given birth to 5 cubs today. Bijli was brought from Indore Zoo in 2020, and presently is 9 years old. It is the fourth litter from the lioness Bijli, sired by Lion Samrat. As of now, mother & cubs are doing fine😌

Today early in the morning hours one calf and its mother were rescued from an irrigation canal near Sapua Dam in Hindol Range by Hindol Range team in coordination with irrigation department. Together we can. My sincere appreciation of all involved🙏

As part of Rewilding, deers translocated from Zoos in to soft enclosures for acclimatisation, were released today in to the wild in Kuldiha sanctuary. They would now be charting out their new territory in the lap of nature🙏🙏

The new guests at Nandankanan… The pair would give much needed company to the lonely Giraffe Khusi of the zoo. This is a part of the design to create ‘African Panorama’ in the zoo. Cheetahs & Zebras would follow soon.

A herd of elephants with skyscrapers of the city all around… Chandaka-Dampada Sanctuary in the heart of Bhubaneswar is the lungs of the city. Home to around 50 pachyderms, it’s a unique landscape in the midst of urbanisation.

The second one in Odisha for guarding our Tiger Reserve… Special Tiger Protection force comes up in Satkosia as per the mandate of NTCA to take on the poachers. Wish them all the best as it is going to be a hard & arduous task for our green soldiers in days to come 🙏🙏

Mohato kisku and Thupul Hembram two notorious poachers involved in a 3 year old RBT poaching in Simlipal were apprehended today.STF had seized the skin earlier; the teeth & whiskers were seized today. Salutations to the Commitment of team Simlipal in solving an old case🙏

Paying tributes to green martyrs those who laid down their lives on the National Forest Martyrs day🙏 The day coincides with the historic Khejarli Massacre of 1730, where 363 members of the Bishnoi community sacrificed their lives to protect Kejarli trees in the Marwar Kingdom.

For species recovery, locally extinct Sambar & Black Bucks were reintroduced in Chandaka-Dampada & Balukhand sanctuary. With immense pleasure now it has been noticed that the initial population have stabilised & are reproducing. After decades, fawn were born in both the areas😌

As part of managing human-elephant conflicts, wildlife wing started tracking the problematic elephants this year after radio collaring them. The third one to be successfully collared today. Well done team 🙏🙏
