"More" CAN mean compare. "I have 5 apples. I have 2 more apples than Tammy. How many apples does Tammy have?" This IS a comparison. "I have 3 apples. Tammy gave me 2 more. How many do I have?" This is NOT a comparison. Keywords are NOT evil. MAKING SENSE of key words is the KEY. x.com/MrRileysRoom/s…

When you look at a child, don’t only see who they are; believe in what they can become. Children know what you think of them by the way you look at them— they can see it in your eyes. #talktome 📚 #ronclarkacademy #communication #motivation #conversation #tlap Dave Burgess Consulting, Inc.

A lady tiled her floor with ~13,000 pennies. Everyone loved it... until people complained how she wasted $13,000! bit.ly/2i4eXzI #iteachmath #MTBoS

Happy Friday! Greg Jr's puzzles are great for developing reasoning skills. Kids 100% need to be doing math at home, just like they need to be reading at home. I think fun & puzzly reasoning problems are the key. No algorithms, no arguing! Try one. All reasoning. No guess & check!

Oh my gosh I love Greg Jr's Tang-a-row puzzles. Here's a gr. 2 puzzle that gr. 3-5 kids will like too. You know that great feeling you get when you figure out the little thing that unlocks a puzzle? It's that exact feeling that can turn kids into problem-solvers. This one has it!

Happy Tangy Tuesday! For gr. 4 kids, mastering multiplication & division is key this year & factoring is a critical, overlooked standard. Grid Lock is great for honing kids reasoning & factoring skills & developing PATIENCE. I don't know that word but hear it's important to have!

There are countless examples in the ‘real world’ where we are given multiple opportunities to pass an assessment for full credit. Driver’s license, bar exam, and teacher certification exams to name a few. If you know it, you know it. The first time... or the third time.

A principal recently told me that some parents don't want their kids "just reading" while at school. He asked what research he could share to show those parents that "just reading" has ACADEMIC benefits. Here it the chart I shared. #DisruptingThinking

True or False: You CAN"T have automaticity without fluency but you CAN have fluency without automaticity. #elemmathchat #iteachmath Thoughts?
