Good to see IMD produce more reports about events. I would like to see baselines as well [below]. Much of Central India , it was 2-3x more thundery than the previous most stormy. Of course, I am trying to get a larger POR for many stations. #may2025 #indiaweather

It is great to see IMD produce reports on extreme rainfall events. I wish it was more precise (instead of categorical values based on rather wide ranges. e.g. Tezpur 176mm, Silchar 416mm) . I have not seen official wind gusts reports yet, but at least a few monthly extremes were

Can confirm that the 3.98" of rain which San Antonio Intl Apt (SAT) received between 3am-4am on June 12th is the highest 1 hour total on record, dating back to 1934. This is consistent w/NOAA Atlas 14 showing this to be ~a 1 in 100 ARI. H/t to daryl herzmann.#txwx

Incredible 50+C streak in June for Kuwait (51.3C and Tmin 36.2C) . It was only last June that it endured one of its longest 50C streak. Ahvaz, Abadan, Basra, maybe Najaf are the major cities with more number of days above 50C. #50Celcius

In the spirit of balance I really don’t think that headlines like this help the understanding of climate change. Yes, it’s hot. But nothing exceptional. And it happens every time we get a hot spell. It just gives deniers and contrarians ammunition of overreacting.

So many monthly records were set in the just concluded heat wave of the East Coast of US, some monthly Wet Bulb Temp (and Heat Index) records might have been breached as well. #humidheat

A few years ago, one of the first things I tried to do was count heat-waves on my own. Most of the research literature used data derived from models. For stations with reasonably good (and contiguous) observational data, why not build a tool to count them?

Turns out that I got to experience the latest (ongoing) London heatwave. Low ceilings and no air conditioning means an internal temperature of at least 28C by evening that cools to 25C with windows open overnight before heating again. #UKHeatwave . Fans help.

The mainstream often overlooks the record overnight lows in heatwaves. The sheer number of stations in Turkey that didnt drop below 30C is truly astonishing. Antalya, Gaziantep , Urfa to name a few all probably recorded their hottest day (avg temp) on record.
