I’m in The Spectator for the first time (no prizes for guessing the topic). The assisted suicide bill has shown parliament at its worst spectator.co.uk/article/the-as…

@RCPsych cannot support the Terminally Ill Adults (End of Life) Bill for England and Wales in its current form and is once again urging MPs to look at our concerns ahead of the pivotal Commons Report stage debate and Third Reading. More here: rcpsych.ac.uk/news-and-featu…

Danny Kruger is correct. I’m not opposed to assisted dying, in principle. But I am opposed to half-truths, hyperbole, spin and celebrity endorsement being used to drive law change. Especially when that law change puts the most vulnerable in our society at risk of wrongful death.

Voluntary medication to obtain early release from prison might be acceptable. Compulsory chemical castration (which is NOT recommended in the Gauke review of sentencing) is a barbaric idea, and I would hope the medical profession would have nothing to do with it.

France is ranked behind Mongolia for end of life care at #19 in global rankings. The UK is ranked #1 without offering suicide. Kim Leadbeater thinks we should look to France, who have just voted for "auto-termination" of the terminally ill. Maybe France should have looked to us.
