How fast are ice shelves melting in #Antarctica? A #UCDavis team and their underwater robot just took the 1st turbulence measurements to find out. Follow Storm Petrel for updates! ow.ly/FbG750m8jEh

It’s that time again... Stormy runs on 240x 1.5V C-batteries that need to be wired together into battery packs, before we ship to Lake Superior next week

Tough day. Stormy listing 10deg to port, and a yet to be explained behavior error means we’re back to the lab again. Spectacular weather though. All gliders and humans still present and accounted for.

The (very) truncated data that we transmit over satellite comms when Stormy surfaces show us traversing through alternating warmer and cooler water patches. Have we found the convective cells we're looking for? #LakeSuperior #fieldwork

Physics check: approx. glider shaped iceberg will float approx. like a glider 👏👏👏 Slocum gliders (me) have a bladder (think pillow) of air in their tail cavity that they inflate on the surface to give that tail some extra lift, is our antenna for communicating after all 🛰️
