This storm was giving off Night of the Twisters vibes on 5/19 in Yukon, OK. Seeing a tornado flash in and out of existence with each lightning strike is a really surreal thing to experience. #okwx

A friendly reminder that the NAM Nest (NAM 3km) does *not* turn off latent heat fluxes when the lowest model level has RH values ≥ 95%. This can result in unrealistically strong tropical cyclones (e.g., 865-mb TC Barry in 2019). Don't use the NAM Nest for TC intensity! #Francine

I think about space pretty often. I both work at NASA and my main hobby outside of work is astrophotography. Space and astronomy are big passions in my life and have been since I was a kid. Of course I can't speak for all people, but I like to think my voice matters too.

Milky Way + SAR Arc captured from central Kansas last night. I saw some chatter on some photography groupchats about a "red glow" being visible in Kansas and Oklahoma, but never thought it to be a SAR Arc. 📸 Tim Passmore (Used with permission)

STORM SURGE TIMELAPSE 6 hours of surge condensed into about 90 seconds, this really shows how the tide shifts as the storm moves through. Cocodrie, LA - #HurricaneFrancine

Another fairly active aurora this evening. This far south it's unlikely that we'll see anything with the naked eye, but long exposures via your camera might get you some pink/red pillars along the northern horizon in northern Oklahoma tonight.

Tragic Storm - One fatality tonight along with some other injuries at Pawnee Lake in N OK. Multiple RVs overturned after a supercell hit around 7 pm with winds up to 72 mph. The Pawnee CO Sheriff told me the man killed was standing outside when the RV rolled. #okwx #koco5
