District Leadership surprised two educators with the news that they were chosen as the district’s 2026 Horizon Award representatives. Congratulations Syrah Baxa, 3rd Grade Stone Creek Elementary - Derby Public Schools, & Alexis Mastrobuono, 8th Grade ELA Derby Middle School, on this well-deserved honor! #DerbyProud
The program, sponsored by KS Dept of Education, recognizes & rewards teachers who have served as outstanding representatives of excellent teaching in the elementary and secondary classrooms during their first year of teaching & are currently in their second year of teaching.

At the September 8 Board of Education meeting, Principal Sandy Rusher presented Stone Creek Elementary - Derby Public Schools’s Needs Assessment & building goals, with a focus of increasing third through fifth grade Kansas Assessment Program (KAP) test scores by 3% in English Language Arts, Math & Science.
