Loomis' about-face on area rating AFTER 2 weeks of advance voting should be disqualifying to voters for whom character matters. AR is one of #HamOnt's most important municipal policy issues. People support you on an issue, then you flip when their ballot is in the box? Pretty low

Singing to the sunrise for all the candidates and volunteers and poll workers trying to make this thing work. Excerpts from Something's Coming from West Side Story (Bernstein et al.) Please vote! Help other folks get to the polls! 💜 #HamOnt

My son: “The voting sticker is a good idea - it will tempt people to vote. Everyone will know that you’re important because you have the sticker”

Not the way I wanted to start things off, but important to speak out about this as soon as possible. For those who have been asking, here's our public statement on journalistic integrity at Hamilton Spectator. For an accessible and downloadable PDF - drive.google.com/file/d/10YLywX…. #HamOnt

Paul Berton⁩ says the heart of this story is a community member losing his life in a home invasion. The lede says otherwise: “A community organizer who has called for the defunding of police has been charged in relation to the kidnapping of a Mount Hope man.”

I won’t cut my nose off to spite my face, but as a young journalist who doesn’t pretend to know everything - I consult the Canadian Press Style Guide (every news writer’s Bible) a lot. Here’s what it says about headlines:

As you hear about CUPE strike action, never forget that Stephen Lecce took $465 million out of the education budget to pay parents, when $235 million would have avoided a strike. #39KIsNotEnough #onted #IStandWithCUPE

There you have it folks, Ontario Conservatives are the first Canadian government to use the Notwithstanding clause to override Constitutionally protected Labour Rights. Quite a day in Canadian Labour law and Constitutional history.

Let’s call this exactly what it is, a betrayal of public trust & contempt for the people of Hamilton. Bad planning, financially irresponsible & environmentally disastrous. Our City Council must use every available tool to obstruct its implementation. #Planningdisobedience #HamOnt

This is what we Ontarians call an #onpoli hat-trick! Rarely does a gov’t mismanage labour issues with healthcare, education and transit all at once.

Doug Ford isn't a populist. He's a clientalist. He's a right winger and that informs his politics. But he also creates relationships of exchange in the right wing universe between electoral constituencies in return for support, narrowly serving those sectors through patronage.

Your regular reminder that the smartest place to build new housing is where we have existing roads, parks, transit (subway is below capacity), and schools. Majority of schools through our city of 2.9 million are hovering around 50% capacity. Great urbanism = great for families.

The response from an MPP office should never include the phrase “look it up”. Ford’s PCs are anything but accountable for their bills. #onpoli

I recall experiencing one strike from 1986 to 2000 and it was for a 2-week stint (ie 10 days) under Mike Harris and a similarly ridiculous minister of education.
