Nollaig na mBan shona daoibh 🥂🥳 Though it was customary in Mayo to only eat 12 bites on the Twelfth Night, I think I'll stick with the newer tradition of drinking wine while polishing off the Christmas cake 🥂 arrow.tudublin.ie/creaart/20/ #irishtradition #folklife #WomensChristmas

We are extremely grateful to all of the Meitheal who have transcribed the Schools' Folklore Collection over the years. There is only 2% of the English material left to transcribe! If you fancy giving it one last go, you can find a story to transcribe here: duchas.ie/en/meitheal

We're excited to announce this extremely unique and academically focused event, 4th-6th March. Food played such an important role throughout the ages in Achill, many of those traditions are still being handed down from the generations. #achillisland #amazingachill

'St. Brigid, wishing to be moderate replied, that all she would ask was as much land near her cell as her mantle would cover. St. Brigid spread her mantle on the field and lo! God caused the cloak to extend so that it covered all now known as the Curragh.' duchas.ie/en/cbes/476996…

It’s getting grim out there. A wartime recipe, one of the more cheerful ones, for ‘Irish Fairy Cakes’ from Mrs Frances Wrenne.

Emerging discussion re grain shortage brought me back to this from 1941, with an afterword by Prof O’Rahilly of UCC. Mrs Wrenne keeps it local with her Muskerry Buns.

So honoured to be part of this year's Mistletoe magazine with the Irish Independent. Read all about Christmas past in my interview with Aoife Carrigy. For those who want to delve deeper, have a read of my Folk Life article at tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

This is Pan Collins. Pan came up with the idea of the #LateLateToyShow when she pitched the item to Gay Byrne as a researcher in 1975. Now an annual event on RTÉ that Irish people around the world tune into. Let's raise a glass to Pan tonight 🥂
