As an RA on campus, the reality behind this number looks like: Stanford not giving us “care packages” with COVID-safety products as they promised, not knowing when communal bathrooms are cleaned, vague policy, & limited capacity to enforce rules as we’re quarantining ourselves

I want to emphasize that Stanford is leaving ALL the people who are tasked with carrying out the university’s decisions unprepared, but mostly POC subcontracted service workers have been left especially vulnerable. Learn more from Stanford Students for Workers' Rights:

While this is absolutely the right decision to make given last night's COVID news and the current situation in the Bay Area, it's despicable that Stanford University waited until the 11th hour to make this call, throwing students' lives into disarray.

Every Stanford announcement from the past 10 months has brought so much anxiety. Stanford must practice care through both their decisions & the way they communicate them– they can’t keep putting students through this.

Stanford is not reimbursing travel and forcing students who were planning on coming to find temporary housing. The cancellation of winter plans TWO days before the first day of classes jeopardizes students' ability to meet basic needs.

across institutions, conditions for subcontracted workers are increasingly dire they are among the first to be abandoned by the same institutions that depend on them sign up demand that Harvard University Law protect *all* its workers ✊🏽💜
