Local loggers and excavating companies including Casey Peterson Landscaping and Excavating have been contracted by the Forest Service to work on stopping the Greenwood Fire.

Joe Thorne took photos of the #GreenwoodFire around Sand Lake from 8500-9500 feet MSL yesterday about 3pm. This morning at 3am, he had to leave his house on the Gooseberry and Highway 3 due to heavy smoke. You can see Sand Lake and firefighting aircraft in sequence on Sand Lake.

Canadian fire near border now over 100,000 acres. On Aug. 22, a Canadian fire crew conducted a burnout operation near Curtain Falls to remove fuels. Flights over area yesterday observed fire has moved to north shore of Iron Lake and Curtain Falls but has not crossed border.

#GreenwoodFire is now estimated as 21,720 acres.

The #GreenwoodFire numbers have been updated this morning. The new total is 25,991 acres burned.

Forest Service officials said crews initiated defensive fire starting operations along Hwy 1 and the Jackpot Lake Road to better secure fire boundaries. Fuels were reduced around cabins and other structures to protect them.

After many days at 37%, the #GreenwoodFire containment jumps to 49%. The acreage also changed to 26,112 acres, just over 40 square miles. Loggers are still on scene working on fire breaks.

How is that Greenwood Fire doing? 54% contained as of 9/9/2021. Weather this week is generally favorable for continued suppression with cooler temperatures, ok humidity, a chance for rain, but winds will still be gusty at times. Thank you fire fighters for all of your hard work!
