Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and I have a lot in common: we both cover San Francisco, we deal with lots of people who don’t like us, and we get shit done

1/ I love how Elise Viebeck captured this moment of symbolism, as the 116th Congress began: "Women lawmakers had to wait until 2011 to get a restroom off the floor of the House. On Thursday for the first time, there was a line to get in." wapo.st/2F5Tg0q

Went to Rainbow Grocery Cooperative this a.m. and it was mobbed. Very good precautions, many bulk bins blocked off, gloves, hand sanitizer, the works. The shoppers were all trying to stay out of each other’s way, cashiers going at warp speed. Everyone was doing their best. Heartening!

SF building officials buried their heads in concrete — along with gas pipes. "As building officials in Miami could tell you, it’s better to avoid a calamity than have to piece together, post-facto, how it happened — and what was missed." From Joe Eskenazi missionlocal.org/2021/06/san-fr…

This Joe Eskenazi story has everything: "The rain never comes down on Willie Brown" ... aerial photos ... Tony Hall cameo ... perfect use of the word "gallivanting." And I think just by reading this I walked about with 3 college credits in zoning law.

Notice something different on your way to the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market this morning? Our crews have been out this week installing the new section of two-way bike lane on the Embarcadero!
