Estuaries are like huge sponges and absorb large volumes of water during flood events thereby buffering and protecting upland areas. Another reminder as to why our #RestoreTheShore project is so vital. To learn more visit restoretheshore.ca

Check out the story in The Squamish Chief where experts discuss natural flood mitigation & how functioning estuaries act like a big sponge absorbing large volumes of water during flood events. Another reminder as to why our #RestoreTheShore project is so vital bit.ly/3G7Cnht

The Restore the Shore team has received government approval to start preparing a section of the berm for modification. We are one step closer to making the estuary a safer and healthier place for. Big thanks to our community for helping us reach this important step!🙌

One step closer to restoration & reconciliation. We are preparing to make the estuary more accessible to the salmon that depend on it. For safety, a portion of the road along the berm will be closed. We can’t wait to renaturalize 144+ hectares of the Estuary! #RestoreTheShore

It's World Wetlands Day on Wednesday. We can thank the wetlands of the Squamish River Estuary for providing flood mediation, groundwater replenishment and pollution filtration. Spend time in wetlands and you might be surprised by what you learn #RestoreTheShore

It’s World Wetlands Day! How can we show up for the wetlands that underpin life in our community? SRWS’ Rhonda O’Grady says it best: “With reverence, respect & reciprocity for the wetland, the beings that live there, the First Nations & their ways of knowing, & for each other.”

Today on #WorldWhaleDay, we celebrate and honor the vital role whales play in aquatic ecosystems. By restoring the Squamish Estuary, we also strengthen the health of the connection between fish, whales and the Salish Sea #RestoretheShore

The Squamish Estuary is an essential nursery for juvenile Chinook salmon and herring. A healthy estuary means more healthy herring, and more food for humpback whales in the Salish Sea! See? It’s all interconnected #RestoretheShore

They might be small, but herring play a huge role in the lives of nearly every coastal species on land or underwater. They use the Squamish Estuary as a nursery - protect the Estuary and we protect herring! #RestoretheShore
