In 1985, Lynette Woodard became the 1st woman to play for a men’s pro basketball team when she signed with the Harlem Globetrotters. Now she's suing the team over unauthorized use of her NIL. Super interesting case that draws from a player contract & CBA: sportico.com/law/analysis/2….

The world became a little less interesting today with the passing of Andrea Gibson. Somehow their words always found me when I needed them most.

Major sports law news: U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit rules for NCAA & reverses an injunction that would have allowed Wisconsin CB Nyzier Fourqurean to play a 5th season this fall. It's a big deal because it's a federal appeals court. I'll have more for Sportico ASAP.

During CBA negotiations, WNBA players are wearing "pay us what you owe us" t-shirts at the ASG. I have been saying for over a year that this might end in a lockout. The numbers don't make any sense. I'll write about it on Monday: huddleup.substack.com

The Masters just announced that Amazon Prime Video will air two hours of coverage on Thursday and Friday of next year's tournament. That feels like a pretty significant step in the transition from cable to streaming for a tournament that has always been so buttoned up.

If the PGA of America’s goal was to keep out the riff raff with $750 tickets, it had the complete opposite effect. Instead, they filled Bethpage with young men who don’t blink at a $750 get-in price because that’s a rounding error on their dad’s credit card. The ones I saw crossing the

I can't imagine a worse PR strategy than asking your customers to fix the problem you created, but ESPN and YouTube TV keep trying anyway. Great job guys!

ESPN will push back against this, citing ratings data (and the business is more than fine) That said, people don't love, like, or value the overall ESPN brand identity like they once did. Some missteps + optimizing revenue over managing brand image. awfulannouncing.com/espn/vibes-bra…

NASCAR's antitrust lawsuit has been settled. 23XI and Front Row will retain their charters, and all team charters will now become permanent — a massive win for NASCAR team owners. "I didn't want to have to tear [NASCAR] down...we reached a compromise," MJ said outside court.

Starting to think guys in their 6th+ year of college should not be eligible for post-season awards. Surely some smart plaintiff’s lawyer will tell me that would be an antitrust violation but I’m tired of 24/25 year olds playing college ball…

The A's come up short—so far—at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for registering Las Vegas Athletics and Vegas Athletics, but they haven't yet lost and they have a number of options at their disposal. My Sportico legal take: sportico.com/law/analysis/2….

"Like so many other instances, the goalposts always seem to be pushed back when Black people succeed." The excuses behind why Black head coaches weren't hired this year are played out and the NFL's biased hiring process is exposed once again. bit.ly/3Zfgb0r
