Day two of IONS Exeter is kicked off with a keynote presentation from Francesca Palombo from University of Exeter who is working at the boundary of #physics, #chemistry and the #LifeSciences. The Optical Society now Optica
Day two of #IONSExeter underway with the second keynote talk - Prof. Francesca Palomino (Francesca Palombo) talking about Brillouin spectroscopy.
The full open-access article of our latest paper on transmission properties of 2D material thin films for terahertz applications is available here: rdcu.be/bJz39 This work is the product of our collaboration with ITMO University OLD PAGE Anna Baldycheva Centre for Metamaterial Research and Innovation Evgeniya Kovalska
We've had coffee, and now there's an invited talk from Dr. James O'Keeffe from Newcastle University presenting “From mantis to machine: A new bio-inspired algorithm for machine stereopsis”. His work is aiming to artificially replicate the 3D vision of a praying mantis. #IONSExeter
Lukas Ohnoutek now, from University of Bath, telling us about his experimental observations of optical activity in hyper-Rayleigh scattering. #IONSExeter
Now it's the turn of University of Exeter Centre for Metamaterial Research and Innovation researcher Simon Baber, telling us about his research on photoluminescence from defects in boron nitride. #IONSExeter
Katya Zossimova from University of Exeter talking about her theoretical work on modelling plasmonic nanoparticles #IONSExeter
Final talk of the second day of #IONSExeter. It's Yang Lu from University of Oxford talking about his synthesis of high quality gallium sulfide crystals.
It's been an exciting afternoon. We've had Ruggero Emmanuele from The University of Sheffield talking about exciton-polaritons, followed by Lukas Ohnoutek from University of Bath telling us about his experimental observations of optical activity in hyper-Rayleigh scattering. #IONSExeter
They were followed by Simon Baber from University of Exeter Centre for Metamaterial Research and Innovation talking about boron nitride photoluminescence, Katya Zossimova from University of Exeter on modelling plasmonic nanoparticles, and finally Yang Lu from University of Oxford talking about gallium sulfide crystals. #IONSExeter
Our work looking at the properties of the nanodiamonds formed during the detonation of explosives has just been published in Nanoscale Research Letters. nanoscalereslett.springeropen.com/articles/10.11… These nanodiamonds have wide-ranging applications, particularly in bio-imaging inside the body.
Two and a half years of work, 364 days since submission, but finally my paper on the first observation of liquid crystals based on two-dimensional tungsten disulfide (and some ofthe applications) is published (Open Access) in Nanoscale. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/art… Centre for Metamaterial Research and Innovation
