A lot of folks are getting covid these days. If you test positive, please call your doctor and let them know because you might qualify for monoclonal antibodies or paxlovid. This is super important, y’all!!

In the United States, 136,000 new confirmed cases today brings the 7-day average >100,000. Real number is esitmated to be ~700,000. And >500 more people hospitalized. No reason for concern, right CDC? charts.medriva.com/us erictopol.substack.com/p/the-covid-ca…

Now the WH wakes up again to COVID. But where has national COVID response been the last 5 weeks as variants like #BA2121 were surging? Asking for the world. #CovidIsNotOver

1. So much hostility and confusion from people who saw me (on a Zoom) wearing a mask in my office this week! The question is: Am I crazy, am I virtue signaling, am I fear mongering, or is there some rationale to wear a mask in a private office? Let’s discuss! 🧵

It's hard to exaggerate the importance of chronic infections & the variants they produce, yet the issue has gotten little public attention & has been almost entirely ignored by politicians. Please share this letter as widely as possible. 15/15 thelancet.com/journals/lance…

Health workers have always put their own health and safety at risk to protect and save others. The burnout crisis started before the #COVID19 pandemic, but now more than ever, we need to work hard to protect the well-being of our health workforce. go.usa.gov/xJcaC

SARS-CoV-2 is surging rapidly in the US. Hospitalizations are up 30% compared to last week. Community spread is going bonkers. This is not a drill 🚨 cases are going to increase substantially, and will be hard to detect due to extreme low testing rates.

Unvaccinated people were 17 times more likely to die from Covid in March than people who were vaccinated with a primary series and booster dose, according to the latest data from CDC. Vaccines continue to provide excellent protection from severe disease—including against Omicron.

📍KIDS HOSPITALIZATIONS for #COVID19 now at the highest in over 3 months! Doubling in weekly rate since early April. This is no spin you can place on this to ignore this. #LongCovid affects 10-30% of infected already—more in those hospitalized. #CovidIsNotOver HT William Ku, Ph.D.

Vaccines and treatments have driven down rates of severe Covid, but long Covid is a serious risk we don't fully understand. It's a good idea to take steps to avoid infection or reinfection by masking up, especially when transmission is high, and getting vaccinated and boosted.

SARS2 is an incredibly virulent, pathogenic virus. Try not to catch it. If you catch, try not to catch it again. The risk of organ damage and chronic symptoms increases with repeated infections.👇🏻

If you're concerned about getting Covid (medically vulnerable or otherwise) and you're indoors with others who aren't masked, consider upgrading to an N95. Cloth and surgical mask protect if all wear, but if others aren't masked, a tightly fitting N95 is much more effective.
