The #SpeakUp super heroes have made it to the Kindergarten classes of PES and are reading them some stories! Pre-K is next!

The #SpeakUp super heroes are in Pre-K classes at PES, reading students some stories. Their final stop this morning will be 1st grade!

The #SpeakUp super heroes are reading to 1st graders at PES! This will be their last stop at the school before flying back to headquarters. Thank you Pocomoke Elementary School for being super supporters of reading!

A huge thank you to Kristin Cashman for coming to our #SpeakUp meeting today to teach us about legacies and lenses and do a deep dive into 3 of the lenses people sometimes view the world through!

Today at PHS #SpeakUp leaders were in charge of the staff's Professional Development lesson, having everyone take part in and discuss their feelings and evaluations of an opportunity walk. Each session was buzzing with deep insight.

The rain and cold couldn't dampen the #SpeakUp trip to NYC. The trip was filled with many firsts for students, such as the first time outside Maryland or on a subway. Students visited the Stonewall monument and a huge thanks to the @LeslieLohman Art Museum for having us!

Leading in to #BlackHistoryMonth, #SpeakUp students talked about information they wished they knew more about in regards to Black History. Throughout the month, we'll be sharing what we learned. Stay tuned!

One thing #SpeakUp students wanted to know more about for #BlackHistoryMonth was influential Black musicians. One such musician was Big Joe Turner (1911-1985), who started rock n' roll. Known for songs like "Shake, Rattle and Roll," Big Joe Turner remains an icon to this day!

Another influential Black musician that #SpeakUp students learned about for #BlackHistoryMonth was Joseph Saddler, more commonly known as Grandmaster Flash. He was a pioneer for Hip-Hop music and invented the scratching technique, paving the way for Hip-Hop artists that followed.

Continuing our research into influential Black musicians for #BlackHistoryMonth, #SpeakUp students learned about Muddy Waters (1913-1983), who influenced the blues and rock'n'roll. The Rolling Stones even named themselves off of one of Waters' tracks called Rollin' Stone.

#SpeakUp students, of present and past, traveled to Annapolis to speak to the MSEA about creating safe spaces in public schools. After a successful day, we stopped by the Harriet Tubman museum to witness the amazing mural of her.

#SpeakUp students took a trip to Baltimore to visit The Great Blacks in Wax Museum. The experience was eye-opening and one that everyone should experience!
