Let’s talk about the four categories of external goals: win, stop, escape, retrieve. This concept works well with genre, but when I was a new literary fiction writer, it was difficult for me to apply it to my own stories. So, here are examples from films and short stories🧵(1/15)

If you're a creator, you must protect your creative time with FEROCITY. I write every day like it's a meal. I plan the time, plan the ingredients, plan the serving size. I don't skip meals, and I don't skip writing. #writingcommunity #5amwritersclub

Beautiful essay by Angela Morales in Dinty W. Moore, including a description of donuts that makes me want to eat one every day for the rest of my life. brevitymag.com/current-issue/… #WritingCommunity

Had a brilliant short essay idea when I was driving. Used the voice app on my phone, and thought I was winning my #writerslife. Next day, listened back. It makes no sense. See also: waking up from a dream, feverishly writing on bedside notepad, then reading it back next morning.
