I a delighted to receive this award and it won't be possible without the guidance of my supervisor Dr Naresh Krishna Vissa and all my professors at NIT Rourkela. My 2 years at NITR were fruitful and this is a testament to that. Thank you OceanSocietyofIndia and Ministry of Education for bestowing this honor.
I had the pleasure of visiting the Year 8 team at MITS on their campus recently. We looked at the Science at Melbourne teaching collection of rock samples (of course) but also discussed how we measure the 'strength' of earthquakes and designed our own structures to withstand the shaking!๐๐
4 years on... Humbled once again to recieve the Science at Melbourne Dean's (@OBryanMoira) Excellence Award for Teaching, this time as a lecturer! ๐ Again, I must give thanks to the absolutely brilliant geoscientistst I've had the pleasure of teaching and working with ๐จโ๐ซ๐ชจ๐
Enjoyed my first ever talk AGU (American Geophysical Union) #AGU23. Thanks to the Education and Outreach session convenors and all my co-authors for making this possible! Great to discuss why outreach is so important for the Geosciences and why it's even more important to evaluate its efficacy ๐๐ชจ๐จโ๐ซ
๐๐UArizona Geosciences Assistant Professor Ananya Mallik's (Ananya Mallik) NASA proposal titled "How โwetโ is the Moon: Insight from hydrogen partitioning during lunar magma ocean crystallizationโ has been selected for funding!
Made my national TV debut yesterday on ABC News Breakfast with Nate Byrne. We chatted all about the recent, and repeated, volcanic eruptions near Grindavรญk in Iceland ๐ Thanks to Nate for having me and making it so fun! Had an amazing time teaching on Science at Melbourne's 'Tectonics and Geophysics' field course at Cape Conran. The rocks, weather and students were ALL great. We mapped rocks linked to the accretion of Australia's eastern margin; all very 'squished' as a result of prolonged tectonic forces!
ARC Centre of ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes released a new report on the state of climate extremes in 2023. Key takeaways - 2023 was a year of extremes both globally and also in Australia, leading to economy-wide effects. climateextremes.org.au/the-state-of-wโฆ #ClimateAction
Very proud of Saini Samim's first paper as part of her Science at Melbourne PhD! Saini (painstakingly) evaluated the best approach for LA-ICP-MS analyses of tiny volcanic glass fragments, demonstrating how useful this can be for fingerprinting eruptive layers๐๐ฌ OA๐doi.org/10.1016/j.chemโฆ
How cool is the 44th International Symposium on Archeometry (ISA) taking place at the beautiful โautumnalโ campus of Science at Melbourne. Also just celebrating the fact that I was finally able to take a selfie with my amazing supervisory team at a conference! ๐ #ISA2024Melb #SciMelb
