#Neolithic textile production: a charred ball (is this the correct term, as the shape isn't that of a ball?) of linen thread, dating around 3200 BC, from the pile dwelling settlement of Nußdorf-Maurach, Überlingen, Lake Constance. On display at Landesmuseum Württemberg.

Delighted to hear about this forthcoming Dorothy Liebes exhibition. I have enjoyed examining some of her designs in the Helen Louise Allen Textile Collection Center for Design and Material Culture and cannot wait for Liebes to be more widely celebrated:

The National Museums Scotland holds this wonderful example of an Yup’ik or Iñupiat parka from the 1820s. It’s so amazingly well preserved, and shows the skills of its maker. This style of parka are made from sea mammal intestines, and are waterproof!

Some actual Flame Stitch examples courtesy of Sophie Pitman and Attingham .... This pattern may look straight out of the 1970s, but apparently it's been spotted as early as the 13th century?!
