Ronna McDaniel got her $300,000 contract from NBC News only to ease the regulatory hurdles for Comcast to merge with Verizon. That's it. Big NBC News contracts are approved by NBC Universal's owner- Comcast. This was an easy sell to the bosses. They don't care what viewers think.
