Today,Minister of State in charge of Primary and Secondary Education Gaspard Twagirayezu participated in celebration of the accomplishments and legacy of USAID Soma Umenye in improving foundational reading skills of P1-P3 children in public and government-aided primary schools since 2016.

This morning, Gaspard Twagirayezu presided over the official closing of USAID Soma Umenye project, a USAID Rwanda financed project aimed to support early literacy by reaching at least 1 million P1-P3 children in Public & Government-aided Schools to advance their Kinyarwanda reading skills.

The event was an opportunity to reflect on USAID Soma Umenye’s five and a half years journey and its impactful contribution to P1 to P3 literacy development through books, training of teachers & strengthening the education system around foundational skills, especially in Kinyarwanda.
