#AutismAcceptanceWeek: how many of these statistics did you know? As #Cambridge’s first state maintained special school, we help our #students to become independent, emotionally and socially confident self-advocates, who feel comfortable in their communities.

I say this as an Italian: regardless of whether you want to be a parent, children are people who belong in restaurants and cafes and libraries, and wanting them out of all public spaces has become far too disturbingly normalised in the Anglosphere.

9. A trauma-informed approach isn't abt feeling sorry or making excuses. It is abt understandng that biological states (inc distress) drive human behaviour. If you don't apply this insight, you make things worse. If you don't pay attentn to relationships, you make things worse.

17/end. So, because I walk in t footsteps of so many brave young people, whose Rights we have championed through the #UNCRC , I wanted to say aloud: Please don't sacrifice compassion for children when times get hard for adults. The needs of both can be met. Through relationships.

I find Twitter rather depressing these days, but this has lifted my mood to no end. Crying actual tears of laughter at some of the comments ('Magma Carta' *snort*).

I'm regularly told I shouldn't talk about behaviour in schools because I don't work, and never have worked, in a school. So instead, I'll talk about behaviour outside of school, for children with trauma. Something I have plenty experience of. Some very specific examples. /🧵👇

There is no formula for writing/recording/communicating info about young people in a trauma-informed way but TheInnovateProject research helped us identify some helpful things to consider. Check out this amazing graphic @MichiMathias created to help us share our learning 👇

"I believe that there is a need in education for the ‘good-enough’ teacher, particularly in response to the tyranny of the ‘outstanding’ teacher (which is a form of perfectionism, in my opinion). The good-enough teacher goes their best to care for & educate their class…" 1/2
