The February #syslog_ng newsletter is now available on-line: - The stats-exporter() now has all functionality of syslog-ng-ctl - Using the blank() filter of syslog-ng - How to test the syslog-ng #Kafka source by building the package yourself? Read it at syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…

#UDP log collection is a legacy feature that does not provide security or reliability. You can improve its #reliability using #eBPF on #Linux in recent syslog-ng versions. Support for eBPF was added to Debian packages while preparing for syslog-ng 4.11. syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…

Version 4.11.0 of syslog-ng should be released this week. However, testing and feedback are still very welcome for this upcoming release: syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…

I am happy to announce that version 4.11.0 of #syslog_ng is now available. The main attraction is the brand new #Kafka source, but there are many other smaller features and improvements, from syslog-ng contributors around the World. syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl… #elasticsearch #macos

Version 4.11.0 of #syslog_ng was released yesterday. I submitted changes to the #FreeBSD ports maintainer, but if you are impatient, you can already try this syslog-ng version from my test repo: syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl… The main new feature is a #Kafka source.

Good news for #syslog_ng users on #FreeBSD. As you can also see on FreshPorts @[email protected], the latest syslog-ng, version 4.11.0, is now also available in FreeBSD Project ports: freshports.org/sysutils/syslo…

Committed users compile #syslog_ng for themselves from source. However, most of us wait until a software is available as an easy-to-install package for our OS of choice. In this post you will see an overview on the available packages for syslog-ng 4.11.0. syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…

Version 4.11.0 of syslog-ng was released over a week ago. Packages are automagically built for #Debian/ #Ubuntu/#RHEL (and clones) during release, and already available in #openSUSE Tumbleweed and #Fedora Rawhide. Read about new features at: syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…

Central #logging is more than just #compliance. It makes logs easier to use, #available and #secure, thus making your life easier in #operations, #security, #development, but also in marketing, sales, and so on. syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…

I have an aging, but fully functional #MacBook, which I bought for #syslog_ng testing. Homebrew no more fully supports old, #Intel-based Macs. This blog helps to compile the latest syslog-ng release on these old, but otherwise functional machines. syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…

I often hear, even at #security conferences that “no central log collection here” or “we have something due to compliance”. Central #logging is more than just #compliance. It makes logs easier to use, available and secure, thus making your life easier in operations, security,

Almost 15 years ago, Balabit had a campaign, stating that #syslog_ng could process 650k messages a second. Now I am happy to present 7 #million #EPS (events per second). Timing the announcement to April 1 is not a coincidence :-) #AprilFoolsDay peter.czanik.hu/posts/new-toy-…

Why "#syslog_ng can do 7 million EPS" was announced on #AprilFoolsDay? It is a completely valid result. However, it was measured not in a #production, but in #laboratory environment. peter.czanik.hu/posts/new-toy-… So, it's an absolutely stunning result, just impossible in production.

Version 4.11.0 of #syslog_ng contains contributions from #Databricks related to #OAuth2 authentication. Recently, they published a blog about how this enables their customers to send logs to their data lake using syslog-ng and the #OpenTelemetry protocol. syslog-ng.com/community/b/bl…
