I guess I was wrong when I've never given a thought to publishing preprints, but in this field it's important. Below is the newest paper submitted to EPJ Data Science: researchgate.net/publication/35… BTW, is here anyone who can provide me endorsement on arXiv AI? :)

Check out our newest paper in EPJ Data Science! We know that human mobility can be predictable, but we wondered what makes it predictable. This is what this paper is about and it has some interesting applications! doi.org/10.1140/epjds/…

Somehow I am the last one to write it but I am happy to announce that I have successfully defended my PhD thesis! Many thanks to my great supervisors Witold Rohm and Katarzyna Sila-Nowicka who made these last five years much easier than they could have been. That was quite an adventure!

The scaling properties of Herring Gulls movement scale similarly to human mobility, although birds tend to explore their surroundings more than humans. This suggests that mobility modelling models applicable to humans can be used to model also the mobility of animals!

This week I am attending great talks at @NetMob23 held in Madrid, Spain. It's wonderful to meet so many researchers centered around the complex phenomenon of Human Mobility!

If I could be once again a PhD Candidate I would use this great opportunity because of those three reasons 1) awesome research 2) awesome people 3) awesome city of Christchurch!

For a couple of weeks, I am visiting CNR, welcomed here by a great host Luca Pappalardo and staying with the awesome KDD Lab Pisa team. Applying for the TNA from SoBigData, which funds this whole stay, was a great idea. Doing research AND living in Italy is the best combination :)

Last week, I had the chance to collaborate with an amazing team at #Complexity72h, diving into the complexities of wild boar movement! Tackling such challenging research in 72 hours wasn’t easy, but we did great! Complex science + movement ecology = 💥
