A great loss for Canada. Hugh Segal was, among many other things, an ardent supporter of good communications as a critical policy tool. His view (and I paraphrase): if you can’t explain a policy simply and clearly to the average Cdn, it’s probably not very good policy. Dead on.

In my years in public affairs, I often dealt with The Fifth Estate & saw firsthand how quickly they put aside journalistic ethics to manufacture stories they hope will prove to the world their investigative bona fides. This hatchet job on a Cdn icon is disgraceful but not surprising.

This is a huge loss to Canada. Mary Dawson’s brilliant contributions to our country speak for themselves but it’s also important to note that she achieved so much while always showing kindness to those fortunate enough to work in her orbit. A life well lived.
