Anywhere in the US, a) huge numbers of people think this way about [your metro's core city] b) most have never spent meaningful time there—ignorance allows them to paint a broad brush But most importantly, c) there's a whole industry in promoting and reinforcing these views.

This would be a huge boon for ecosystems! R&D is the single most difficult to replace ingredient in any local entrepreneurial ecosystem. It is too often sequestered in isolated suburban complexes or in small college towns, which can limit local industry interactions & spillover.

Strong Towns From 2,500 people to 38,000 in 20 years. Everything is new. They feel wealthy (and smart). Their gov't accounting supports that impression. It's all an illusion and the coming struggles are easily predictable.
