So we’ve gone from it’s OK to boo them to the biggest flag in the country? That’s an even bigger turnaround than the one on the European Super League.

NEW: people worry when they hear "40% of hospitalisations are fully vaxxed", but this chart shows that's actually good news. The more people you vaccinate, the higher their share of hospitalisations, but the *total* number in hospital is a fraction of what it would otherwise be

I'm in favour of higher wages & better conditions in sectors where they've been rubbish for years, & I hope that's where we end up. But don't let the government convince you this chaos/"transition" was the only way to achieve it. ft.com/content/73fb98…

Analysis from the Guardian shows that the government’s so-called Levelling Up agenda has so far awarded people in Sajid Javid’s already wealthy Bromsgrove constituency nearly £150 per head in funding - while people in hugely deprived Knowsley have received absolutely nothing

Really not a fan of all this morally loaded "workers must show pay restraint" rhetoric. It's entirely rational for people facing 10% inflation to try to get a pay rise. Tell them no if you want, but don't tell them they were wrong to even ask.

This shows industries by pay and vacancy growth. Private services all in top right, public services bottom left. Education, public admin especially. Industry surveys now flagging labour costs as key (often #1) driver of rising prices - markets, not militancy, driving a spiral.

Hope everyone enjoyed the recovery. Managing to enter this recession with our economy still smaller than it was pre-pandemic is quite an achievement

Anti-minimum wage lobbying from hospitality firms is ramping up - warnings of it decimating the sector or having "dire consequences". Which is odd because hospitality isn't shrinking it's fast growing, from 6 to 8% of jobs since the minimum wage was introduced
