The quickest way to deliver HS2 to Manchester and beyond is to... build HS2 as designed and consulted on. Nothing else will be built more quickly. Not even a single track line with a hand cart.

Sorry but this new "#HS2 Alternative" doesn't stack up. There's a reason it was supposed to be slab track (to cut down heavy maintenance costs) and a reason why it tunnelled under Crewe rather than a "simple" interface. Not building it to European gauge is backward.

Mayors of Birmingham and Manchester have come up with a plan for a nearly-high-speed line linking their two cities. Two cheers! for recognising that the case for a new line to add capacity is unanswerable - whether on economic or environmental grounds. /1 theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/s…

Coda: the report ( midlandsnorthwestraillink.co.uk) πŸš„barely nods at 🌳environment or CO2 - it's all about πŸ“ˆ economic growth. πŸš„Nor does it consider πŸ” national strategic goals - it's all about πŸ”¬ the local picture. πŸš„Nor 🐒 the long run - it's πŸ‡ "how can we spend less now?".

Almost of a third of your water bill goes on dividends and debts. Water companies were privatised without debts. Thanks to Dr Ellie Chowns MP for joining us to mark Cost of Water Privatisation Day.

Imagine if they spent Β£22 billion on restoring peat bogs, the oceans, forests (proven carbon capture), or on public transport, insulation, solar – literally anything but this, which is just playing into the hands of the fossil fuel bros and delaying the transition to green energy

Free money for 18-22 year olds. Everyone born 1 Sept 2002 to 2 Jan 2011 has a child trust fund with government money in it, average Β£2000. But Β£1.4 billion is unclaimed. They can claim it here bit.ly/3bCiQYA all they need is their national insurance number.

Forget the nonsense about reviewing costs on Phase 1 of HS2, today's real news is that this government has announced in no uncertain terms that it will not be progressing with Phase 2 to Crewe, Manchester or Leeds. Craven. Short-sighted. Hugely damaging.

Anyone want my line on this budget, now I've read through the whole thing? Not a single announcement of new rail investment. Less than the last budget which cancelled HS2. It's the most hostile budget for rail since the Blair years. Utterly dismal.

Given that Farsley Celtic are currently playing their home games at Silverlands, and Buxton Football Club are at home on Sat 18th, any chance they could let Scarborough Athletic FC (club and fans) know when/where the Farsley v Boro game might take place? Y'know, out of courtesy to all involved?

Hey there Hotpoint UK. Do you fancy reminding drivers of your service fleet of Highway Code Rule 123? Had one of your vans sat outside my house for 20 mins now with the engine running. Ta. highwaycode.org.uk/rule-123/
