The opening ceremony of the 2012 Olympics was 13 years ago today in London; what a wonderful time for our city and country that was.

The wreck of B-24D 'Lady Be Good' lies in the Libyan desert, discovered on May 16, 1959—over 15 years after vanishing on an April 4, 1943 mission to Naples. The bomber flew nearly 400 miles past its base, likely due to a navigational error in the dark.

85 years ago today, Flt Lt James Nicolson was awarded a VC for an action over Southampton. In 1979, I tracked down his widow and ‘rescued’ the tattered uniform & Mae West he was wearing on 16 Aug 1940 just before she was going to burn it! Today it resides at Tangmere Military Aviation Museum

Terence Stamp lived in The Albany for many years - posh rooms for bachelors, off Piccadilly. An actor I know was thinking of living there and asked him for advice - ‘make sure you get a room with a real fire’, advised Terence, sagely. ‘Chicks LOVE a real fire…’

In '80s, a Welsh farmer grew so fed up with RAF flying so low over his house that he painted "Piss Off Biggles" in giant letters onroof of his barn. This prompted RAF to use barn as navigational landmark although flying higher to respect his wishes. credit RAF Coltishall

If anything this Eze transfer has shown Palace to be a top club. Fans wishing him well, manager conducting himself well. Allegiances aside… fair play Crystal Palace F.C. 👏👏
