#RipStumbleUpon I learned this morning that StumbleUpon will be shutting down on June 30th. Apparently the founder is folding it into a new product mix.com.

StumbleUpon once meant to me: that big red button marked RANDOM, onto the whole Internet. The last real chance of finding content new, uncurated, unheard of, free from the influence of any algorithm, but for the implementation of rand() on whatever virtual machine runs the code.

StumbleUpon was for me much more about freedom than it was about technology, a big fuck you to the opinions of people I care nothing about, and whose influence I wilfully deny. In a weird way it ticked my sense of adventure.

Now the Internet has changed, and the way people consume content through social media means that everyone's experience on the Internet is truly individual; and subject to outside influences, not the least of which is an algorithm that a hacker that you'll never meet has written.

#RipStumbleUpon I found the answer to my plight github.com/jonhoo/su-extr…, so I downloaded 1'900 likes, 4 years worth of 'work'.

Google Plus, though described as a failed social network, was primarily an identity service... Then came Snowden and people lost trust in the Trusted Identity System... Instead of fixing the data breach, very expensive for low rates of engagement, Google decided to shut G+ down.

Over the last year I've been working with refugees in Switzerland, teaching them basic IT and electronic repair work. What has shocked me the the most is seeing people who speak 3-4 language being treated like handicapped people because they barely speak French.

Dealing with refugees in Switzerland, I find it appealing to find people who have fled murderous regimes at home, being forced to eat bread crumbs by a burocracy that will never know what it means to be beat senseless by the policeman because he had a bad day, and that is normal.

Went to a Powercoders meetup in Lausanne yesterday. Getting inspired to be an IT Trainer for refugees for the session starting in April. They are a very agile organisation, cutting through all the burocracy, to get migrants integrated into society, and get the stuff done. 👍

There is an Powercoders Kick off tonight in Lausanne! Looking forward to meeting a new class of entrepreneuring refugees willing to learn all there is to software development. Hope to make a difference !

President of Ecuador says why they revoked Assange's asylum after guaranteeing his human rights since 2012. Why? He was disrespectful bitting the hand that fed him. Realistically he published dirt on the Vatican in January. youtu.be/SJtb4KqZpYU #FreeAssange #Asange #WikiLeaks

Class strugle in the 21st century : YouTubers vrs Algorithms youtu.be/DKlwZDb6qko ; YouTube criticised for not publishing clear rules on demonitization, my bet is the company itself doesn't know what the rules are, happens when you turn over all power to a neural network
