I’ve been getting a lot of questions from my non-Black friends about how to be a better ally to Black people. I suggest unlearning and relearning through literature as just one good jumping off point, and have broken up my anti-racist reading list into sections:

Where we are - Level 4: R number above one in some regions, but hospitals not overwhelmed. What we're doing - Level 1: Sports events return, vulnerable leave home.

This is why you should always ask for absolute risk as well as relative risk. Chance of infection at 1 metre from a CV19 patient - 2.6% Chance of infection at 2 metres - 1.3%. Though decimal points imply levels of certainty that I doubt we have. So yes, risk doubled (1.3% extra).

Emailed my MP to ask him to vote against the ridiculous proposals to end virtual voting which would prevent shielding MPs from representing their constituents in Parliament. You can do that to at writetothem.com. BE POLITE. Please.

"I hope that my 13-year-old son grows up to be just as amazing as they are." Rahul Dubey opened his home to nearly 70 strangers overnight and sheltered them during D.C.'s curfew. He says our country needs people like THEM. FULL INTERVIEW: bit.ly/3cxjKo9

Arrogance, complacency, obfuscation & double standards ... Business as usual from Jacob Rees Mogg By cancelling hybrid proceedings, he’s creating a 2-tier parliament, silencing those who cannot be in London, putting staff at risk, & running roughshod over public health advice

Normal life is on hold. Many are shielding, some can't get childcare, others can't travel. Yet, Rees-Mogg demands MPs return to vote in-person. Rees-Mogg is preventing MPs with caring commitments, or who need to shield, from having their say. It's democracy for the elite.

Democracy died today. Parliament voted against an amendment to allow shielded and vulnerable MP's to vote remotely. In effect, the Tory party forced through insanity. Never forget this.

COVID led to an increased cost of respirators bc states had to bid against each other. Drug companies are competing to develop treatments & vaccines and make a fortune. Amazon is profiting from the desperate need for supplies. I guess it's only "looting" when poor people do it.

Some true #WednesdayMotivation I hope we see many many more of these. Please, please remember the sacrifices still happening up and down the country. Stay home as much as you can. Save lives.

Last night, Labour authorities all over Britain lit up buildings with purple lights in memory of George Floyd and in solidarity with those standing up against racism and injustice.
