This book is unbearable to read. I’m only 30 pages in & I have to stop for now. It’s a compilation of testimonies from the 2015 Yemen war. Each account is worse than the last. Seeing images of dead children over the last 11 months repeatedly has made this book harder to read.

We talk about AI hallucinations quite a bit in a seminar I teach on algorithmic bias. This here is literal hallucinations, induced by an overuse of ChatGPT. Chilling what AI can do to human relations. rollingstone.com/culture/cultur…

Giving an online talk next week on secrecy and the War on Terror on Wednesday 14th May. I want to think about the political function of redaction in court documents and memo, highlighting how this functions as a tool of power. More info here: shereenfernandez.com

I asked Grok to tell me a joke about Muslims, the results were… predictable. Me and Shereen Fernandez (& contributors) write about this topic and more in our forthcoming book Automating Islamophobia: The Future of AI and Muslims - preorder link to follow in the coming weeks!

For those teaching on the War on Terror, this book by Rhys Machold 🍉 is essential. The interconnections of these geographies through the prism of homeland security means that we understand the globality of the War on/of Terror better. Book review coming soon!

This report by AI Now Institute should be read widely. I've been thinking about this one quote: "AI is predominantly used on us, not by us, to shape access to resources and life chances". We must consider how AI affects us. ainowinstitute.org/wp-content/upl…

I was unaware of IBM's toxic history, literally and metaphorically. It makes you think about the dystopian nature of tech and what the future of AI could look like: lav.io/projects/endic… This short film called Sacrifice Zone puts much of this into perspective.
