Our partner institute Scottish Association for Marine Science is deploying a FlowCytobot off Shetland. The device photographs algae and through machine learning can identify certain types. The technology could be a game changer for #HABForecast and #harmfulalgae research.

📢New paper out by @Joanna_Kershaw, Silje-Kristin Jensen et al on toxins from harmful algae in fish from Scottish waters. Access here: tinyurl.com/app/myurls. PhD student Ellie Murphy created this amazing, intricate Christmas tree using marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum. This model species is used frequently in our labs notably to investigate cellular mechanisms using molecular techniques like crispr-cas9 gene editing MBA - Marine Biological Association

Look at this! Hitchhiking algae. Among the plankton is this copepod with an epizoic diatom bloom growing upon its body. But, what is the relationship? ZEISS Microscopy
