Teixeira is standing between his two lawyers and answering politely, "yes your honor" while she asks if he understands the charges against him.

Teixeira says he is not under the influence of any medication and is aware of what he's doing by changing his plea to guilty to six counts of wilfully retaining top secret and classified information.

He acknowledges he's read his plea agreement, which calls for a sentence ranging from 11 years to 16 years and eight months.

The sealed portion of Teixeira's sentencing hearing just ended. His lawyers and prosecutors just entered the courtroom where his parents, media and others are gathered for the sentencing earing open to the public.

Teixeira, who has been in custody since his April 2023 arrest, just entered the courtroom. dressed in orange prison uniform, legirons and handcuffs. He smiled at his family in the spectator section.

Teixeira told the judge, "I wanted to say that I'm sorry for all of the harm that I've brought and that I've caused and that I don’t thinkk I can really sum up how contrite I am...."

Teixeira told the judge, "My behavior has caused such a maelstrom in the lives of my family, my friends, anyone it’s affected overseas..All of the responsibility and consequences fall on my shoulders...I accept whatever that may bring. I'm at your mercy your honor."

Judge Talwani says she thinks a 15 year sentence is an appropriate sentence to recognize his is young, but "it is such a serious crime." Wants to deter others. Says that's what she intends to impose, but hasn't officially imposed it yet.

Judge Talwani says to Teixeira, "that's the sentence I intend to impose" and it means he can't have guns. Any objections she asks both sides. "No your honor," prosecutors and defense say.

Judge Talwani says Teixeira knew what he was doing was wrong. "you might be young but you probably know better than my generation how easily things are disseminated" on the internet.

Teixeira is asked to stand. Talwani tells him, he is sentenced to 180 months in federal prison. She'll make a recommendation he serve his sentence close to his hometown of Dighton.
